Recording drums with Ash and We are Scientists

so im finally back in the UK and yesterday Rick from ASH and Andy from We are Scientists and Razorlite were in the house recording drums for a charity project.

the song was written by Robert Manning (an MS victim himself) and is being re-recorded by a bunch of other bands. tim’s idea for this version would be that ASH would be on one speaker, and We are Scientists on the other. double drums. awes.

matt and dan from the awesome Urchin Studios lent me a Noonan snare drum (which is incredible) and an RE20 mic for the session.

on a techy note i used stereo overheads for the first time in ages on these recordings. also i used the APIs for the first time on drums, for the snare (top and bottom), hi hat, and beater side of the kick drum. they have really fast transients and a super punchy mid to high mid sound and mental loads of gain.
